How can you better yourself?

Ever given yourself a ten out ten in something like a competition, physique or the work that you do? Well, I want you to be honest with yourself when you respond because the minute you clicked the link to come onto this blog, you instantly joined a safe circle where no judgement follows. And so, I urge you to take a moment and rate yourself in your work, your talent, studies or whatever this may be. When you are done, ask yourself, “how can I better myself”, and let us start right there!

Say for example, you feel that you are a solid “6” or maybe even an “8”, regardless, my aim today is to guide you on how to improve your mindset through actioning some of the points I enlist. And this is so that, on your way or even when you reach a 10 in your own lane, you can add value through a premium interest @ 20%. Heck, this is for you to choose as you wish so if 30% or 50% is the way forward for you, then so be it. BUT, let’s not confuse this with “VAT or Tax’’ in any way, because truth be told, we know that’s deducted and goes straight back to the government — #itwillneverbeyours (sorry, lol). This is about you and what you do alone for yourself and so you must add value to YOU!

I am handing you the reins to better yourself so let’s ten up your outlook and mindset.

  1. Competition: The way I see it, if you watch a 100m race, you know it’s a fierce competition which to me, represents the challenges and obstacles that come up in day to day life. But even though it’s a competition, every athlete is given and stands strong in their own lane and if they go into another lane, they are disqualified which knocks them out from achieving their Olympic or championship medal. In your case, this will be whatever goal it is that you are after. I came up with this example so you can ask yourself what this is meant to teach you? Because yes, it’s a competition but it is you by yourself speeding to achieve your goal and beat your personal best.

So let this be your reminder, you can’t be out here chasing something that someone else has. If you could somehow imagine the “viral meme of the girl knocking the phone screen to tell someone off”, that’s me right now (literally)! I am screaming at you in the nicest possible way, because this is something you have to engrave in your mind and trust me when I say, it lifts a massive weight off your shoulders to just be focusing on yourself and how you can get better than you were yesterday or the day before. Your biggest competition should always be yourself and overcoming this alone is a TEN.

What you can do instead: Look to your peers or role models for inspiration, creativity and support where needed. Then use this as the force to drive you in developing yourself further. For instance, Bruce Lee with fighting and watching different styles and techniques in order to perfect and develop his own fighting style if you get what I mean? NEVER put in your mind that you are going to be competing with someone because you will never be satisfied in that race. So try to imagine the start of a 100m race with every athlete being in their own lane and use this to steer away from the need to compete and aim to BEAT YOURSELF TO GET YOU A PERSONAL BEST.
  2. Invest in yourself: This is key because when you learn a skill, it becomes a part of you and this is something that NO ONE can take away from you. With practice, your confidence will build and soon enough, it will feel easy making this the perfect opportunity to open yourself up to learning something new. Say you currently work as an administrator or a nail technician and you wish to become a PA, Office manager or a masseuse.

Ask yourself, “what further training can I take to reach this goal or how do I add value to myself, my CV or portfolio so that when I apply for this role that I want, I can stand out?”

What you can do: Enrol on a course and open yourself up to learning. This is meant to keep you on your toes and prepared for whatever it is that comes your way so that you move forward. Know that there is no rush in building these skills up but it’s important to become consistent in your routine to reach the next skill you wish to achieve.

Tip: Here are some sites I have found online that can help you academically and professionally that are all free and easy to use. I am certain there are also youtube videos for learning courses so opt for what suits you best or mix them up!

    - Alison.com: so many free classes and courses from social media to business admin, project management, physics, and a whole lot more
    - Oplex Careers: CPD Accredited this isn’t free but courses are sometimes reduced and there’s a massive range you can pick from Health & Social Care, Bookkeeping, HR, Accounting and much more
    - Unsplash.com: Say you are a creative, the images on here are great for creating moodboards, good for additions in pitching your proposals, picture perfect architectural and interior design photos, fillers for your insta posts or whatever completely free of charge
    - Free Courses Funded by the UK Government: I found this recently as I was looking for a taster to ease my way into doing Counselling/Life Coaching and I found this was helpful.

If you’ve been following my blog then you know I have said this before and so for the #itsamidaexperience on this particular topic, I’m gonna repeat it again because you can’t be out here with a lack mentality. You ought to start training your mind to think in terms of abundance. So what if someone down the road also has a hair salon or your friend has a youtube channel and you don’t want to look like you are copying? There’s enough for everybody and the right people will come to you.

Those who need to hear, see or need your services or resources will come to you and sometimes you will be shocked because some strangers will come and show you more love and support than your friends and that too is okay. There’s always a bigger market so don’t limit yourself in thought or perceive what you do or your craft as little.

Get moving and whilst you are on this journey to improving your mindset, focus on developing yourself, your craft, and your skill. You’ll be surprised at how easily you could cover the basics along with the essentials too whilst covering some of these points. Either way, you win, because your investment in you will always be with you. So get you to a 10/10 + a premium 20% interest and holla at your girl @itsamida whilst you go through this journey.

Of course I’m going to give you something to take with you, so here’s a poem I wrote in simple words — “Apprenticeship” to help you reach and better yourself in your own game.

Thank you for reading.

Love & Light
